Ingredients
-
½ cup chopped onion
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 cup ketchup (organic or natural)
-
1 cup guava juice or nectar
-
½ tablespoon Grey Poupon Country Dijon
-
3 tablespoons good maple syrup
-
1 tbsp Spicy Fiesta Seasoning
-
1 tbsp Adobo Fire
-
1 tbsp Sazon Desire
-
2/3 cup of good Puerto Rican Rum
Directions
Heat a little avocado oil (or your preferred cooking oil) over medium heat in a saucepan. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for about 45 seconds.
Combine the ketchup, guava juice, Dijon, maple syrup, Spicy Fiesta, Adobo Fire, Sazon Desire, and Rum in the saucepan. Stir well to mix all the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a slight boil, then reduce the heat and cook for 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Carefully blend the sauce using an immersion blender or regular blender until smooth, then return it to the pot.
Simmer uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes.
Remove from heat, let cool, and enjoy with your choice of chicken or pork. Refrigerate any unused sauce. It will be good for approximately 1-2 weeks.
Recipe Note
Our preferred rum for this recipe is Guajana 89 rum, as its sugar cane molasses notes enhance the BBQ sauce beautifully.
You can add guava paste to the mix before blending for an additional boost of guava flavor and sweetness.
